About AWS

Our History

In 1996, Logan Farm Equipment (1988) Ltd., an established John Deere dealer in southern Ontario, Canada was finding a growing need to satisfy their own customer’s requests for a better air reel system to aid in direct cut harvesting. Unhappy with what was currently available, and knowing what plagued existing systems that were on the market, owners Peter VandeBorne and Tony Visser made a conscious decision to pursue the development of their own wind-reel system.

By the start of harvest in 1997, a few prototypes had been produced. These units were given to select individuals to work with so that their performance could be monitored and evaluated. Following the trials in 1997, a limited number of systems were made available in 1998 and working relationships were formed with neighboring CaseIH, New Holland and Agco dealers so the systems could be evaluated further on other makes. Components were designed and built specifically for each brand of head to ensure effectiveness and reliability of the system. 1998 also saw an exciting, entirely new concept, the first combine mounted blower. Mounted on a John Deere 9600 combine this proved to be a very efficient and alternative way to drive the fan. By the end of 1998 a trade name had emerged! AWS – Advanced Wind-Reel Systems.

Due to overwhelming success in 1998 and an increase in both dealer and farmer response to the product, it was becoming clear AWS was much more than a product for the local area. In late 1998 Temp Farm Equipment Ltd. was created, a separate full-scale design, production and distribution company focusing strictly on AWS – Advanced Wind-Reel Systems. Mike DeCorte, a licensed mechanic of 10 years and an employee of Logan Farm Equipment (1988) Ltd., headed up product development and support for the newly formed company. His years of experience with combines and competitive systems were the perfect fit to continue the drive of AWS wind reels. The year 1999 saw full-scale production of header mounted blower systems for all makes and combine-mounted blowers for John Deere 9000 series combines sold through an established dealer network. By 2000 the first CaseIH combine mounted blowers were made available for all 21 and 2300 series machines., The year 2000 also saw the introduction of John Deere 50 and STS series combine mount blowers and a continued growth in Temp’s dealer network. In 2001 Temp Farm Equipment announced the appointment of Jeff Dolmage to manage AWS sales in North America. With years of experience in farm equipment sales, and farming himself, he brought forth his own experiences with air systems and how they apply to today’s farming practices.

Sales and interest in the product continued to increase in the following years. The concept of now having the option of driving the fan on the combine propelled the company forward. In the spring of 2005 construction began on a brand new manufacturing facility in Mitchell, Ontario and in the fall of that year it became the new home for AWS - Advanced Wind-Reel Systems.
